Abstract

"Outdoor Adventure" piece on the volunteers who help maintain Maine's 267 miles of the Appalachian Trail. Don Miskill of Orrs Island, who heads up the statewide effort, says there are about 120 Maintainers with assigned sections, and the other 450 members of the club move from place to place. Don Stack, Maine Appalachian Trail Club president, has met some memorable adventurers while working the trail.
