Abstract
“House of the Month” piece about La Selva, the Bar Harbor retreat of socialite Madeleine Astor who survived the sinking of the Titanic and of Blanche Oelrichs Davis, also known as Michael Strange, an actress who had an affair with John Barrymore. From 1959 to the 1970s, La Selva housed L’Ecole Arcadie, a French immersion summer school. Built in 1902, the “cottage” is in some need of repair. It is for sale for $2.3 million. With sidebar by Robert Witkowski on members of the famed Astor family.
