Abstract

State and local officials have decided to extend public water to four homes on the Huston Road in Gorham because their well water hs been polluted by pollutants leaching from an old town dump that was opened in 1976 and closed three years later. The state Department of Environmental Protection will pay $125,000 of the cost and the town will pay an additional $15,000. Homeowners will pay only for the work done inside their houses. The state is still assessing the overall problem caused by the former landfill.
