Abstract

New England Telephone Co. has filed suit in Portland, charging that the 1984 Cable Act barring phone companies from offering cable service is a violation of the constitutional right to free speech. NET would like to build a communications system offering cable TV and other services on as many as 500 channels, with Portland as the first market. Details, related article.
