Abstract

The Portland City Council on Monday voted 8-0 to endorse a lawsuit filed by NYNEX Corp., the parent of New England Telephone Co., which seeks to end the restriction that prohibits telephone companies from providing cable television services. The vote is described as being a show of no-confidence in cable provider Public Cable Co., due to the adversarial relationship which exists between the company and the city council.
