Abstract

The Portsmouth Naval Shipyard in Kittery has been given the authority to cut another 940 positions from its workforce, and plans to offer early retirement incentives to workers until May 28. Reducing the workforce by 940 would result in a total of 4,100 positions at the yard, down from an average employment of 8,700 in 1989.
