Abstract

Several state agencies are facing deficits, prompting speculation that the Legislature and Gov. McKernan will have to find the funds necessary to keep some programs running through the end of the fiscal year. Gov. McKernan says that the state cannot afford higher spending and the agencies must live within their budgets by cutting costs, but legislators on the Appropriations Committee say the state will have to pass a suplementary budget.
