Abstract

U.S. Senator William S. Cohen, R-Maine, on Wednesday said that he will vote against the North American Free Trade Agreement when it comes before the Senate because of Canada's unwillingness to abide by existing trade laws. Cohen specifically mentioned the province of New Brunswick's 11 percent sales tax, which is meant to be added to goods purchased anywhere outside of the province but is only being assessed on purchases made in Maine.
