Abstract

Dorothy Matthews, a Portland crossing guard for five years, is resigning her position effective November 30 because many drivers fail to stop or slow down when going through her intersection. A Portland police wagon has been assigned to the intersection at Congress and Mellon streets on some days, but Matthews feels the work is too dangerous for her to continue with the job.
