Abstract

Maine Citizens for The Tax Break, a group that is sponsoring an initiative that would require voter approval for all tax increases, has collected about 20,000 of the 53,000 signatures need to force a statewide vote on the question. Nathaniel Goodale, the group's secretary-treasure, believes the organization did well to collect 20,000 signatures because of the light voter turnout on November 2. The group can continue collecting signatures through next year if it wishes to bring the question to a vote in 1995.
