Abstract

Jim Petersen, an archaeologist at the University of Maine at Farmington, has discovered a birch-bark fragment of a basket or barrel which might be at least 4,000 years old. The fragment, about the size of a human hand, was found earlier this month when samples were collected from the bottom of Sebasticook Lake. Details.
