Abstract

Article about Nathan Nickerson, 36, a Portland nurse-practioner, who recently won a National Community Service Award from the Nurse Practitioner Association for Continuing Education. The award recognizes him for having created the Homeless Health Care program, which provides primary care, substance-abuse counseling and mental-health services to those without permanent homes. Nickerson is manager of adult health services for the Portland Public Health Department.
