Abstract

The Maine Merchants Association has begun a lobbying effort to block passage of state comprehensive health-care legislation that was introduced during the last session of the Legislature by Sen. Dale McCormick. The association argues that health-care coverage based on payroll taxes will hurt Maine's small businesses. The association would prefer that the Legislature postpone any action until it is known what the federal government will do. Results of an informal survey of businesses.
