Abstract

The Jewish Federation of Southern Maine has announced its opposition to the lighting of a menorah at Portland City Hall this evening, claiming that holding the religious ceremony on public property violates the constitutional separation of church and state. Meyer L. Bodoff, the federation's executive director, is also displeased with the Maine Mall's decision not to allow the lighting of the menorah or the display of any religious symbols. Details.
