Abstract
The Maine Department of Environmental Protection says it is unable to deal with the arsenic-contaminated wells in the Buxton-Hollis area because the chemical is occuring naturally. Since the contamination is a health issue, the state Department of Human Service's Bureau of Health, which monitors public drinking water supplies, is authorized to deal with the problem, but it has no jurisdiction over residential and private wells.
