Abstract

Thomas E. Christensen, a professor of bio-resource and forest engineering at the University of Maine at Orono, last year began testing fish oil as a possible substitute for petroleum-based hydraulic fluid. Great Eastern Mussel Farms in Tenants Harbor, which has been using fish oil in its automated packing system since October 6 without problems, is the first of as many as six industrial sites that will be using the nontoxic and biodegradable fish oil in a variety of machines.
