Abstract

Maine communities are increasingly abandoning the old tradition of plowing private roads. Under state law, a town's liability is limited to $300,000 for an accident that occurs while the town is plowing a public road, but the liablity is unlimited for an accident that occurs when the town is plowing a road for which it does not have a deeded right of access.
