Abstract

A Portland Public Works Department proposal to pave Milk Street, which is made of granite paving stones, has resulted in an outcry from local business people who want the street to remain just as it is. Public Works Director George A. Flaherty has decided against the original plan to pave over the blocks, and has pledged to repair the street without removing a single stone. Details.
