Abstract

The logging industry in Maine has always been plagued with a high injury rate. In 1992, considered by many to be a good year, more than 300 loggers missed work after job-related accidents and one logger died after a tree fell on him. The Maine Employers' Mutual Insurance Co. and some forest-product associations have begun holding in-depth safety training programs in an attempt to bring down the rate of injury in Maine's woods.
