Abstract
The Maine Supreme Judicial Court ruled that Mutual Fire Insurance Company does not have to compensate a homeowner for damages sought by a woman who was beaten and raped by the man at a house insured by the company. A Lincoln County Superior Court justice had ruled that Mutual had to compensate homeowner Thomas N. Hancock because his actions were unintentional and therefore covered by the policy, a ruling which the Supreme Court threw out.
