Abstract

Thore Aatlo, 32, of Portland, became the first person convicted in Maine of a race-related violation of federal civil-rights law. In a non-jury trial, Aatlo was found guilty of violating the rights of Joanna Williamson, an Afro American, by berating her and threatening to burn down her house as she was eating dinner in a Portland restaurant.
