Abstract

The Peabody House, at 14 Orchard Street in Portland, is scheduled to open May 1 as a home for people with AIDS. Named for Frances Peabody, a leading AIDS activist, the home will accommodate as many as six residents in advanced stages of the disease. Peabody House Inc. has raised around $200,000 toward the cost of buying, renovating and operating the 93-year-old house, and is seeking grant money from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.
