Abstract

A new federal report has shown that the lobster population in the Gulf of Maine has steadily grown since 1987 and that the mortality rate has declined since 1988. The reverse situation has existed in the Georges Bank/Southern New England area since 1983. The need for future increases in lobster gauge sizes is questioned.
