Abstract
The inspector general of the Pentagon has proposed that the Navy reduce the number of destroyers it buys each year from three to two, which would result in a savings of approximately $4.3 billion in procurement costs. The destroyers are built at Bath Iron Works and a shipyard in Mississippi, and a cut of that size would have a potentially devastating effect on BIW. Details, related article.
