Abstract

Of the 5,260 students who applied to the University of Maine in Orono last year, only 33 percent, or 1,741, entered in September, and 43 percent of them graduated in the top 20 percent of their high school class -- UMO Athletic Director Mike Ploszek says that athletes must realize that the competition for entry into Maine's only Division I school is in many ways just as tough as the competition on the playing field, and even student-athletes who meet the National Collegiate Athletic Association's academic standards may not be admitted to the school -- Details, related articles
