Abstract

A proposed legislative bill that would prohibit clear-cutting in Maine's forests will not work in the state's complex timberlands, according to the Maine Forest Service and forest industry groups -- The state in 1990 banned the clear-cutting of more than 250 acres and instituted regulations on clearcuts between 35 and 250 acres, which led to a 50 percent decline in clearcuts in the state -- Details
