Abstract

The Legislature's Energy and Natural Resources Committee yesterday expressed support for a broad program to monitor Maine's waters for toxic chemicals, but was uncertain where the state would get the $500,000 a year to pay for the program -- A 1992 state Department of Environmental Protection assessment found that only 10 square miles of Maine's 1,633 square miles of estuarine waters and 865 miles of its 31,672 miles of rivers have been monitored for toxic chemicals -- Details
