Abstract

Biographical sketch of Portland Newspapers reporter Linda Fullerton, who profiled Steven Wayne Gagnon, a mentally retarded man who was discharged from the Pineland Center and ended up living a life of deprivation in Portland. Fullerton's expose is credited with providing the impetus for the lawsuit charging the state with failing to provide adequate treatment for the mentally ill.
