Local police, the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency and drug-treatment providers in the area all say that more drug abusers are turning away from cocaine to heroin, which has become cheaper, more potent and easier to get in recent years -- There have been seven deaths from heroin overdoses in Portland in the last 20 months, and law enforcement officials have revised their estimate of local heroin addicts from 200 to 500 -- Details
