Abstract

Randall Bennett, 36, a Freeport fisherman, wants to build a 160-foot pier and a 30-by-40-foot shed for his fishing gear at the outer tip of Flying Point. In order to do this, the town will have to enact zoning changes which are opposed by residents in the area who fear that the tranquillity of their neighborhood will be disturbed and that Bennett's project will lead to other unwanted development. Bennett points out that Freeport has 27 miles of coastline, but commercial fishing activities are restricted to about 2,000 feet of deep water at the base of South Freeport village. Related article.
