Abstract

Police yesterday charged Jeffery Phillips, 47, of Portland and James Freeman, 44, of Verona with criminal trespass during a demonstration outside an Easter Mass at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception. The men claimed to be member of the Mount Graham Coalition, which contends that the Vatican is wrong to keep a telescope on Mount Graham in Arizona, a spot that is sacred to the Carlos Apache Indians.
