Abstract

Last week, after discovering falsified data in one study and a potentially serious discrepancy in another, the National Cancer Institute suspended enrollment in more than a dozen cancer studies being managed by the National Surgical Adjuvant Breast and Bowel Project. Dr. Philip L. Brooks is the Bangor oncologist coordinating the Breast Cancer Prevention Trial at Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor, which has more than 30 Maine women enrolled. Brooks says the NCI action doesn't change the integrity of the group, and is still encouraging women to participate in the study. Details.
