Abstract

University of Maine at Orono officials yesterday briefed members of the Legislature's Education Committee about the recent National Collegiate Athletic Association athletic-eligibility violations at the school. Many of the legislators questioned whether the university was overemphasizing athletics, and one warned that if the school does not take care of its problems legislators who support the university system would have difficulties in securing funds for it.
