Abstract

The Maine House yesterday voted 96-50 against a proposal that would have allowed an Indian-run gambling casino in Calais. The Senate rejected the bill on a 23-11 vote. Tribal attorney Thomas Tureen said he didn't know if the Passamaquoddies would seek to sue the state under the federal Indian Gaming and Regulatory Act, which he says guarantees the tribe the right to a casino. Details, list of legislators and how they voted.
