Abstract

The Maine House of Representatives yesterday voted 123-17 to give preliminary approval to a bill that would ban payments to people circulating referendum petitions. The bill is in response to reported irregularities among and payments to individuals collecting signatures to get a congressional term limit referendum on this fall's ballot. Details.
