Abstract

Five legislators from southern Maine--Sen. Gerard P. Conley Jr., D-Portland; Senate President Dennis L. Dutremble, D-Biddeford; Rep. James V. Oliver, D-Portland; Rep. Donnell P. Carroll, D-Gray; and Rep. Donald H. Gean, D-Alfred--recently voted for a school funding plan that reduced the amount of state aid for education in their communities. Under the so-called 60/40 Plan, school districts sheduled to get an increase under the state funding formula will get only 60 percent of those increases, while those scheduled for decreases will suffer only 40 percent of their scheduled decreases.
