Abstract

Housing starts locally were up 18 percent for the first three months of 1994, to a total of 262, compared to the same period last year. Southern Maine's hot markets for new housing are Scarborough, Gorham, York, Windham, Falmouth and Saco. A 65 percent increase in housing starts for central and southern Maine from February to March is attributed mostly to pent-up demand after a bitter winter. Details.
