Abstract

Two-year-old Patrick McDonough was allowed by his doctors to leave his isolation unit for the first time on Thursday after receiving a bone-marrow transplant for leukemia three weeks ago. Doctors at Children's Hospital in Boston say Patrick is making surprising progress but that they will not know for five years whether his leukemia will come back. Patrick will remain in Boston for the next several weeks so that he will be accessible to his doctors.
