Abstract

Dan Lambert, 18, a senior at Massabesic High School in Waterboro, lost his hearing when he was struck with fever not long after his birth. Lambert attended the Gov. Baxter School for the Deaf in Falmouth for years, but always wanted to attend Massabesic. His first year at the school was difficult because he could barely communicate with his peers, but this year Massabesic became one of eight schools in the state to hook up to a University of Maine at Augusta telecourse on American Sign Language, and the class had enabled Lambert to converse with fellow students.
