Abstract

Nearly 500 people gathered yesterday at St. Luke's Cathedral in Portland to remember John Preston, 48, who died in his Portland apartment on April 28 of AIDS-related illness. The writer and activist was remembered for his courage and integrity, and the reverential tone of the scripture readings chosen by Preston before his death surprised some of those in attendance.
