Abstract

The General Accounting Office, an investigative agency of the Congress, this week released a report stating that Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Maine is one of the weakest Blue Cross and Blue Shield companies in the country, an assetion that Andrew W. Greene, president and chief executive officer of the Maine organization, calls "ludicrous." The report, prepared by Weiss Research Inc., rated the company weak based on such things as the quality of its assets and its financial performance over the past five years. Blue Cross objects to the rating on both of those criteria.
