Abstract

S. D. Warren Co. said yesterday that it is close to an agreement with a buyer in Southeast Asia to sell the remaining hemlock logs piled up on Commercial Street. The company had an agreement with a subsidiary of a Thai company called C.P. Group to send around 20 million board feet of hemlock to China from Maine in four shipments, but that deal was canceled after the first shipment of 5 million board feet left Portland in September. One million board feet were recently sold to a sawmill in Quebec. Details.
