Abstract

Through mid-June the Maine Department of Transportation will spray a mixture of water and the herbicide Krovar I in a 2-foot path on gravel surfaces and under guardrails along state-maintained roads. The purpose of the spraying is to control the growth of weeds that can cause the buildup of winter road sand on road shoulders. The sand causes the diversion of water onto the roads in winter. Municipalities and landowners can enter into no-spray agreements with the state if they also agree to take responsiblity for controlling the roadside vegetation.
