Abstract
Maura O'Halloran at age 27 became one of the few western women to achieve the status of Zen master, but was killed in 1982 in a bus accident before she could realize her ambition of opening a Zen center in Ireland. O'Halloran's writing have been compiled in a book, "Pure Heart, Enlightened Mind: The Zen Journal and Letters of Maura Soshin O'Halloran," which will be released Thursday. O'Halloran's sister Kate, who works for a Portland publisher, worked on the project, as did another sister, Elizabeth, and brother Scott O'Halloran of South Portland. Details.
