Abstract
Portland officials have abandoned an attempt to require bars and nightclubs to end their music and dancing by 1:15 A.M., a proposal suggested by police in February but tabled by the city council until May. The proposed curfew was aimed at The Cage, a Wharf Street nightclub that doesn't serve alcohol but features dancing until 3 A.M. on weekends. Police had feared the club would become a magnet for bar patrons leaving other nightclubs at 1 A.M. Details.
