Abstract

The Libertarian Party of Maine will today sponsor the Maine Liberty Forum at Portland's Holiday Inn by the Bay, with syndicated talk show host Gene Burns as the featured speaker. There are only between 100 and 150 active, dues-paying party members in Maine, but organizers expect the event to draw a number of individuals who are libertarian in philosophy but not Libertarian in party affiliation. The party has been active in Maine since 1980, but only had registered, state-recognized status from 1990 to 1992, after independent gubernatorial candidate Andrew Adam took five percent of the vote in 1990.
