Abstract
Article about the growth potential off microbreweries in Maine and elsewhere, discussing, in particular, Shipyard Brewing Co., Casco Bay Brewing Co., and D. L. Geary Brewing Co., all of Portland. Shipyard, co-owned by Fred Forsley and brewmaster Alan Pugsley, opened a new brewery in the old Crosby-Laughlin building near the Old Port last month, and Casco Bay , owned by Michael LaCharite and Robert Wade, will open a new microbrewery in the Turnpike Industrial Park next month. D. L. Geary Brewing Co., established in 1986, was the state's first microbrewery. It has experienced an annual 30 percent growth in sales and recently doubled its production. Details.
