Abstract

Mary Gabriel, 85, a basketweaver who lives in Indian Township in Washington County, is one of 11 folk artists awarded a $10,000 National Heritage Fellowship for having kept folk traditions alive. In September, Gabriel, who is somewhat overwhelmed by the honor, will be flown to Washington where she will be officially honored.
