Abstract

Republican gubernatorial candidate Susan Collins, who won the primary with just 21 percent of the vote, has the conservative wing of the Maine GOP leery because of her support for abortion and homosexual rights. Conservative Republicans like Michael Heath of the Christian Civic League of Maine believe Collins will have trouble attracting the right wing of the party, but others feel that conservatives have no other candidate to embrace.
