Abstract
Neil Rolde, chairman of the Seacoast Shipyard Association, the independent lobbying arm of the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, yesterday said that the U.S. Navy's decision to continue transporting spent fuel from nuclear-powered vessels to the Idaho National Engineering Laboratory is fine with him. The Navy had considered storing the nuclear waste at Navy shipyards, including Portsmouth. Some local officials see storing nuclear waste at the Portsmouth yard as having economic benefits, but Rolde says the health risks outweigh any such benefits. Details.
